The thrift store I frequent is located right next to my local grocery store, so I often go in for a quick lift in my mood by sifting through their library for any new books or little amusing knick-knacks. Last week, on my way to finish up my groceries, as usual I made a short pit stop at the store, hoping to browse through their books to see if any new titles had been put up. And then, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted it – this ridiculously adorable pink chrome teddy bear tucked away on one of those “Bulk Buy” shelves, like it was waiting just for me.
This thing was beyond cute. I didn’t even realise for the first minute it had a slot for coins and not just a decorative accessory. This teddy bear was decked out in shiny pink chrome, reflecting the light, as if it knew I love shiny things like a crow out to hunt to decorate their nest! It felt like stumbling upon a piece of modern art in the most unexpected place. The fact that it was also a piggy bank just added a whole new level of awesome. I mean, who wouldn’t want to save their coins in a shiny teddy bear? I had been hoping to start decorating my room to help it feel more like my space, and I knew this cute bear would fit right in! So, I bought the piggy bank, and the first thing I did when I got back home was empty out my purse of all the coins and feed it to my new teddy bear bank. When we were really young, my sister and I had piggy banks and it was so fun and nostalgic to do this again.
It’s amazing how something as simple as a thrift store find can bring so much joy. But that’s the beauty of it – you never know what hidden gems you’ll stumble upon. Finding this unique chrome teddy bear piggy bank was definitely a highlight of my day. And a much needed serotonin boost after a long week of midterms!
