We had an amazing opportunity to appear on the show “What’s Up London” by Rogers TV to share about mindyourmind and the features of the Be Safe App. Jill Vanderlei, our Program Coordinator, highlights how the app supports young people in reaching out during a mental health or substance use crisis. She explained how the app connects youth to local resources in the community and assists in developing a safety plan before a time of crisis.
The Development of the Be Safe App
The app was co-developed with youth through our Design Lab process, where young advocates used their lived expertise to design and determine the app’s features. It was initially launched in London, ON, in 2014, in partnership with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and local London organizations and is now available in all provinces and territories and many other regions across Canada.
How the Be Safe App Helps Canadians in Crisis
Jill also shares how the app has helped parents and others who find themselves or their loved ones in crisis. Part of our mission at mindyourmind is to create free and accessible tools that support youth across Canada. The opportunity to participate in interviews like this can help to raise awareness about the tools available, like the Be Safe App, and help more youth, young adults, and all Canadians stay safe in a crisis.
Approved and Trusted by Top Health Organizations
The Be Safe App was selected to be evaluated by the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) and the Organization for the Review of Care and Health Apps (ORCHA). The app successfully passed evaluations and has proven to be evidence-based, confidential, and safe. The app can be downloaded for free from the App Store and Google Play Store.
